Wager Types Explained: Moneyline, Spread and Total

A moneyline settles on the named winner, a spread adjusts the score by a handicap, and a total settles on whether the defined combined score is over or under a line. Parlays combine legs and usually require every leg to satisfy the operator's rules. Overtime, pushes, voids and abandoned events can change settlement, so the market label alone is not enough.
